White calcium stains on stucco walls and solid fences

Stucco walls and fences may have a white stain that bleeds through and gives an unsightly appearance.   This stain can be removed by spraying it with a mixture of vinegar and water.   A 50/50 mix of the vinegar and water will dissolve the calcium and restore the good looks of your house or wall.   A more permanent solution is to use a good grade stucco primer and repaint the areas.   The primer will prevent the calcium from leaching through the paint.  The front gate and mailbox areas are being treated in March with the eff stop primer and paint.   They should look great when the contractor is done!  The contractor that primed and painted the Community's mailbox area and front gate, North County Home Maintenance,  is now a Sierra Norte Sponsor and is listed on the sponsor page.

Street Sweeping

The street sweeper is now going to clean our streets on the second Friday of the month.   This works out better by following the City of Scottsdale bulk waste pick ups.

Sierra Norte Landscaper

The Community now has a new landscape contractor.   The new company is Desert Foothills, the same company that did the excellent front gate improvements.   If you have any comments, concerns or suggestions for improvements please email the Board.   Please do not talk to the landscapers workers about any improvements or issues as these need to go through the person responsible for the landscaping.    We are looking forward to an improvement in the look of the common areas!

March '09 Newsletter

The March Newsletter and the draft Minutes of the February  Board Meeting are now posted.  The newsletter is normally printed after meetings of the Board, so there is not another issue planned until June.

SIERRA NORTE ALARM MONITORING
Homeowners' Alarm Monitoring is included in your monthly dues and is administered by ADT. ADT has appointed Dan Higgins the Special Respresentative Sierra Norte, and he is available to answer any questions Homeowners may have about their alarm services, equipment, monitoring and maintenance, his phone number is posted on the "SITES OF INTEREST" page on this website - look for the "Pocket Guide of Essential Telephone Numbers".

Loan Refinacing
One of our homeowners has some interesting information for others in the area.   He has looked at the current 30 year interest rates and found some as low as 4.5%.   With rates this good it may be a time for all of us to check the rate we are paying now.   This could significantly lower some monthly housing payments!   If you do get a new note the house will need to be appraised.   He noted from his appraisal that it is in your interest to point out all the upgrades and especially any improvements made since the house originally closed to the appraisor.   The Sierra Norte HOA does not endorse or recommend any particular lenders or agents.

Tennis Court Use
The Community Tennis Court is a valuable and appreciated Community asset, but it's use is RESTRICTED to the playing of Tennis only - any other use of the Court is strictly prohibited as damage can result and could give rise to increased maintenance and repair costs which in turn would have to be recovered from Homeowners by further assessment. Such prohibited uses would include, but are not limited to, Soccer, Skate Boarding, Skating, Hockey, Frisbee, Dog Walking, Exercising & Training, Basketball etc. We would cordially ask users of the Tennis Court to lower the net after use, extinguish court lighting after play, and refrain from hitting tennis or other balls against the court perimeter fencing. We thank Homeowners and their Children for their cooperation in maintaining our Tennis Court in pristine condition for its intended use, and hope that as many of you as possible will make use of this terrific facility - a Notice of Permitted Use has been posted, in full view, adjacent to the Tennis Court Gate.

Contractor Referrals
Know of any good contractors you have used recently? Do you care to share their contact details with your neighbors? Landscapers, Window Cleaners, Home Cleaning, Weed Treatment etc.? Why not ask them to become an "SNS" - A Sierra Norte Sponsor - it's regularly $40 a year, but during March, there is a special rate of $30.  Their contact and service details could be posted on our Sponsors page. That's a good way for them to get more business and for our community members to have access to quality services
